Creating a Safer, More Innovative Workplace: Highlights from Our Psychological Safety Workshop

At Naimuri, we are constantly working to make the UK a safer place, while also fostering a workplace culture that encourages growth, collaboration and inclusivity. In January, our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) Powergroup hosted a Psychological Safety Workshop as part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing our organisational culture.

The workshop focused on one key goal: creating a space where everyone feels valued, heard and respected. We believe that psychological safety is essential for a thriving workplace, and this session helped us explore how we can make it a reality at Naimuri.

What is Psychological Safety and Why Does it Matter?

We kicked off the workshop by defining psychological safety. Simply put, it’s the belief that you can speak up, share ideas, ask questions and make mistakes without fear of humiliation or punishment. It’s about creating an environment where employees feel safe to be themselves and are encouraged to contribute fully.

To spark a deeper conversation, we asked our colleagues to share what “safety’ means to them in a work context. The responses were insightful, highlighting just how essential trust and respect are to our everyday interactions. It became clear that psychological safety is not just about avoiding harm, it’s about actively supporting one another in bringing our best selves to work. The responses also highlight the fact that everyone has very insightful views that should be respected.

Exploring Our Current Culture: SWOT and the 11-Star Experience

To better understand where we are, we used a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis to assess our current level of psychological safety. This exercise allowed us to recognise what’s working well and where we have room to improve.

We also tried an innovative “11-star experience” activity, where we imagined a workplace with perfect psychological safety. This exercise helped us visualise what a truly safe and inclusive environment might look like, providing us with actionable insights to move forward.
