Software Development (Digital Technologies) BSc
3 years total
I have been involved in apprenticeships since I was 17.
I was in college for one year and realised that the only subject I enjoyed going to was Computer Science. The college initially helped me find apprenticeships but there were not many on offer, so I went into every software company in Liverpool and handed them my CV, asking for work experience with the potential opportunity to get an apprenticeship afterwards. A medical tech company took me to where I completed my Level 3 apprenticeship (equivalent to 2 or 3 A levels). I then found out about Naimuri and and completed my Level 4 initially which was a Foundation Degree before moving onto my Level 6 which is equivalent to a full degree
I found that the benefits for me were that I earn while I learn. While friends were taking student loans and just finalising their A levels, I was making a steady wage, not enormous (as you are still learning) but enough for you to have a good life with friends. I was gaining relative experience, learning the actual job you want to go into with no student debt as the workplace paid for everything.
I have a lot of options now, I have about 6/7 years industry experience and have a full degree so it places me in a very strong position for any future roles within the same workplace. It does also give you good ground if you were ever to move on.
Definitely do it, it is undoubtedly the best experience you could get while learning your dream job.
